Pass S. 4599; Let Local Local Gov't Buy More Green Power
Dear Senator Stewart-Cousins,
Local governments can and should be a leader in the effort to create a clean energy future.
However, under state law, local governments are required to purchase power (as well as other products) from the cheapest possible source. In many instances this law prohibits local governments from purchasing renewable power and by doing so the state is inadvertently hampering the market for renewable energy and impeding the growth of the state's burgeoning clean-tech economy.
As a member of the New York League of Conservation Voters, I urge you to pass S.4599, which would allow local governments to purchase clean energy at a limited additional cost.
Local government ought to have their say when it comes to purchasing green power and passing this bill is an important step toward improving New York's commitment toward building a clean and sustainable energy future.
Thank you for your consideration.
