Please Pass The Sewage Right-To-Know Act!
Dear Assemblymember Malliotakis,
As a member of the New York League of Conservation Voters, I am concerned about sewage pollution and its potential to affect my family's health.
That's why I encourage you to pass the Sewage Right-To-Know Act (S.6268-A / A.9420-A), sponsored by Senator Mark Grisanti and Assembly Member Robert Sweeney.
A shortage of federal funds has left New York's sewage infrastructure in serious need of upgrades and repairs. As a result, hundreds of millions of gallons of sewage are discharged into our waterways each year.
While you continue to address the underlying infrastructure issues, I urge you to act now by passing the Sewage Right-To-Know bill.
Exposure to untreated sewage is a serious public health threat, particularly for children and the elderly. But New York currently has no state law requiring timely public notification of sewage releases.
New Yorkers should have the right know when there is sewage in the water we swim, boat and fish in. That's why I urge you to pass the Sewage Right-to-Know Act as soon as possible.
Thank you for your consideration.
